Phones in the Philippines use GSM. This is Nokia country. These are the same
phones you can buy and use in Australia or Europe.
The Panasonic and Samsung v200 are on the high-end so the steep price. If
you plan to stay long and think you would consume a lot of airtime, you may
get a 2year lock-in plan from the telcos and maybe get your phone for free.
The Sony Ericsson T610 is one of the most advanced one's recently introduced
here. Priced about 45 to 50K yen (maybe cheaper at Greenhills). It's not a
flip fone but has color screen, java & camera and is quite small even for
people with small hands like us.

Maybe even more if you've seen the apps and SMS games we have.
Consider yourself lucky to have experienced JP keitai culture, all I could
do here for 3 years is drool at what you have over in JP. And maybe play
around with some phones brought over by friends, even if the phones don't
work here.
Wait. Did you say you moved to the Philippines? On second thought.......
isn't that like being thrown out of the frying pan and ........ oh nevermind
;-)
