A very simple DRM solution has been a key component of i-mode since =
launch, and it is
controlled by the content provider. If the content provider chooses to =
protect=20
a file (eg. GIF, JPEG, MIDI, JAVA) that a user downloads,
forwarding out of the receiving device--by any means
(eg infrared, messaging, etc)-- is not possible. =20
My understanding is that the method used is simpler
than that defined by OMA (though I would be interested in hearing =
comments from CPs
who have experience both.)

Subject: (keitai-l) iAppli Piracy
There is a lot of debate about DRM and piracy (P2P, post-Napster, Kazza =
=3D
etc, etc.) and how this as a business issue is blocking the deployment =
=3D
of data services in Europe. This (the logic goes) is because content =3D
providers e.g. Java games suppliers, and aggregators e.g. Bodaphone =3D
Live, are afraid of piracy eating into profits. One proposed solution to =
=3D
this is so-called DRM - digital rights management - for which a standard =
=3D
is being developed inside the OMA.
My question is how does piracy and DRM related issues affect the data =
=3D
market in JP? I would be very interested on the opinion of the list as =
=3D
to what really happens in JP about this 'problem' and how the JP =3D
experience may transfer to the ROW (rest of the world).
