Darren,
(1)
though not as long as we lost candybar, i-mode lost its steam many
years ago, too. the "i-mode success" is no more. it was gone about
the same time as the 3G (UMTS) bubble.
(2)
people are buying FOMA not because it's the latest 3G technology,
but because they want a latest Sharp, Panasonic, or NEC phone.
many are disappointed, similar to the hard days when au/KDDI was
switching from PDC to cdmaOne.
selling 3G as if it was 2G is the similar (but not as easy) trick
as upgrading cdmaOne to cdma2000. but by doing this, DoCoMo gives
Vodafone Japan a good chance to sell 2G as if it was 3G.
isn't it interesting?
