to be sure everyone have SMS in Japan except the DoCoMo PDC network,
which has near 60% of all subscribers. FOMA has SMS but unfortunately
the i-mode mail for FOMA is still a crap.
au/KDDI, J-Phone, and TU-KA all have pretty good SMS and that's been
one of the advantages they have over DoCoMo for the last 6 some years.
SMS can have an SMTP interface to the Internet (e.g., SkyEmail), and
it's still SMS. SMS is also a part of MMS in 3G, and you receive
at least one SMS along with each e-mail (if not DoCoMo).
