Interesting topic !=20

My two (euro)cents :

There is very few SPAM problem with SMS because it is expensive for the
sender.

E-mail is available with WAP, but you'd need to set it up.. And you
needed to put an existing e-mail adress.=20
Now, providers (some ?) are providing a <phonenumber>@provider.country
e-mail adress when subscribing.

But people don't use it much as they are not used to, and can't reach
everyone with that (very few people use WAP).

New phones have now better ergonomy to the e-mail function .. But still
nothing to see with the i-mode "two button mail/i-mode" model.

It's a matter of time, but telco doesn't really promote it's use because
SMS has a very good economic model, and they want to do the same with
MMS.

i-mode allow both SMS and E-mail in Europe (well in France it is) and
now allow user to receive MMS.

Sad to see the "closed" model win, it is not the "Internet thinking" ..
PC and Phone users aren't on the same level.

But I hope to see more and more people use e-mail and e-mail might be
the standard in Europe too one day ??

One question : what historically is the fisrt standard in Japan
SMS-like (Cmail skymail..) or E-mail ?.
I guess it is "SMS-like, very few use, then E-mail and big success" in
Europe success of the SMS started when operators agreed to open their
respective SMS network to each other.
