I know what you are saying and I won't argue DoCoMo did a good job.
J-Phone's brand new SH010, D08, and T010 handsets are still on CSD
so packet data is not relevant (same reason I cannot understand why
Europeans had to wait for GPRS).
btw, CDPD is a great IP packet data technology over the 30 kHz AMPS
channels at 19.2 kb/s (AT&T analog, true speed around 10 kb/s).
one headache with CDPD is long delay, also a problem for J-Phone.
what I mean is there are many others doing even better jobs and that
shouldn't be shadowed by DoCoMo's success. one's study will be far
from complete without including J-Phone and au/KDDI.
