HandSpring has announced their new GSM/PDA phones, Treo 180 and 270.
Treo 180 is a Palm-compatible PDA with very much integrated GSM 900/1900
phone (not like their previous VizorPhone). From PDA perspective it's
pretty much a typical Palm PDA with greyscale display, 33 Mhz DragonBall VZ
and 16M memory. As a phone it uses the PDA functions for phone book,
messaging, and other features. There's visible antenna (sigh), GSM 900/1900
support (might cause some arguments in Europe where dual-band 900/1800 or
tri-band is preferred), vibration, headset and speakerphone support. GPRS
upgrade is also mentioned. It's 153g and about double the size of a Palm
Vx, not the smallest kid in town. Price w/o service plan $549, with service
plan $399.
Treo 270 is a similar Palm-compatible PDA with color screen, available mid
2002.
Not exactly the equivalent of a colorful i-mode keitai but interesting
development in the mobile phone and PDA convergence.
