Hello,
The i-mode Java specification allows for the addition of vendor specific
API.
I have personally not yet seen any of these APIs, but if you look at the
i-mode Java spec there is
a class called PhoneSystem. The only standard thing the PhoneSystem allows
you to do for all phones is
turn on and off the backlight. After that, each vendor provides different
attributes that you can set in the PhoneSystem that
do not match the other maker's phones, such as making the phone vibrate
takes different parameters for the P503i to the F503i.
Also, the screens for each phone vary in size, so if someone is writing a
game that is heavily dependant upon the screen size, then
incompatibles can occur.
I hope that helps,
Zev
