While I agree there are some visibility advantages (although one of 1500+
sites is still a needle in a haystack) by being on the official menu, isn't
it REALLY the billing platform content providers are after?
There have been reports DoCoMo are planning to expand the billing collection
to unofficial sites, but how is that even possible? The 9% commission they
charge doesn't even cover DoCoMo's costs to collect fees for the official
sites, so many more sites with only few transactions can't possibly be
economically viable to set up billing relationships with, and there will be
thousands or millions of them...
And if DoCoMo provide links to a number of independent portals, and let them
sort out the content, how will the microbilling work? Being able to pay for
content on your one and only mobile phonebill really is key!
Can anyone enlighten me?
