Yes, I think so too. Desktop Web is for browsing and surfing deep linked
information on a worldwide *web*, an activity that the mobile web and
the mobile user is not made for. The mobile user uses his or her mini
short time slots throughout the day and goes online several times
quickly, jumping to a content site, reading and writing mail, getting
some info quickly or playing a short game. Two minutes, maybe three max.

Mobile users don't surf or browse, they jump. Information depth
therefore has to be shallow, consumable in small bites and easy to find
and access, which is why portals are IMHO even more important on the
wireless web.

Both wired and wireless web will co-exist and have their own usage
patterns and sucess stories. For me its like cinema against TV. I don't
go to a cinema just to watch the daily news, but I do go to the cinema
to watch "The Storm" -- its just looks better on a big screen :-)

On the other side, the desktop based wired web might change and
especially desktops itself will change, becoming lighter and more
portable themself -- allowing you to use the Internet while moving
around the house, connected to a wireless LAN. Thats even already kind
of reality, with the SONY Airboard:
