You can check www.sendo.co.uk what they're offering today and compare that
to what they're promising with Microsoft ;-)
One of the annoying things about today's mobile device announcements it's
the emphasis on weight compared to the size of the device. I don't really
care if the device weights 10 grams if it's brick size.
I would happily exchange the color screen, CF slots, USB connectivity, etc
for a phone that was size of a SecurID or credit card. I know that size
matters (also in mobile phones) but I'm still yet to be convinced that all
those mobile services on the tiny color screens make my life any better. I
still think that the success of i-mode is the business model, not really the
services..
Just the take Internet for example; there are some really useful and
valuable services out there but there's no correlation how flashy and
colorful they are. Even more the opposite, the most useful services aren't
covered with fancy decoration.
I tend to think that Palm's success over Microsoft (Windows CE, Pocket PC,
whatever tomorrow) has been the decoration. Palm kept the screen simple and
efficient, Microsoft has the habbit of filling the screen with colors and
useless information. 99% of the time my Windows CE pda has been used it has
been running Solitaire.
