Aren't some of these schemes a bit more advanced than barcode - i.e.,
two-dimensional?  That's what I saw when I was looking into this.

Uh...unless you can get the print job to radiate in infrared, I don't see
how this can work.  Why would the scanner be in infrared in the
first place?
