There are problems everywhere, for example Barclays Bank in the UK had two
security breaches in its online account system last week. Moreover, there
are really two key points here:
1. This kind of continual loss of service erodes public confidence. Again
this is demonstrated in the resistance to B2C e-commerce in many countries
(with regards to online credit card payments). For example, UK internet
users think it is safer to use their credit card in the high street than on
the net!
2. The second point, which is really what I intended by all my previous
comments was that we should not be complacent and assume we understand the
global consumer better than they do themselves. I have seen so many biased
views expressed due to cultural ignorance, that I for one try not to assume
how a given market will behave.
Finally, and I would like to make this clear the comments in my previous
mail were observations based on comments made by the press. They are not my
personal opinion!
