Looks like phones outside of Japan are getting Felica-compatable chips.
there are currently three trials going on in the U.S., France and
Germany.
Items can be purchased by holding Nokia 3220 mobile phones equipped
with Philips' NFC chips and ViVOtech software near a secure
terminal. ViVOtech deployed 156 contactless point-of-sale (POS)
readers throughout Philips Arena. Mobile downloads are carried by
Cingular Wireless over its digital wireless network.
NFC is compatible with infrastructure based on Philips’ Mifare
technology, ISO 14443 B and Sony’s FeliCa card used for electronic
ticketing and payment applications.
