Yes, I agree. Perhaps "easily" was the wrong word to use. It would require
a huge system with probably big machines and lots of processing but the
question was if it's possible to do something like that using the Felica
platform, and I think it is. Why wouldn't it be possible? Each card has an
ID and each card interacts with machines during its use, be them Suica
readers, Edy readers or whatever, so why would it be impossible to track
them in real time? It's just a question of building the back end
processing, or so I believed.
Gerhard said I have it all wrong, so perhaps it is much more complicated.
I'm still unclear as to what is wrong though ;)

It is not that easy. The system must be huge to handle in real-time the
traffic spikes during peak hours in the morning and evening. Imagine the
investment required for such a system. For now, all information is
locally stored at stations and batch processed.
