Maybe - I have to confess I have not looked in detail at the
similarities and differences between GSM-style SMS and AU's cmail,
but I am sure that they are not the same system, since AU's
underlying communication system is totally different, and
totally non-GSM.
Regarding DoCoMo, which has about 50%-60% market share depending
on how you count, users can select SMS explicitely on FOMA/3G,
but I am pretty sure that the usage of SMS is at last a factor
of one million less than email, i.e. for 1 SMS sent there
are probably 1 million or more emails sent. There are many
reasons, including pricing, email is far far cheaper than SMS.
The only SMSs I receive are SPAM.
