The nokia and Siemens phones sold in GErmany are not true i-mode phones.
They only have a i-mode HTML browser (but do not comply to all iHTML
features), they do not support well i-mode mail, and ringtones format
are different. DoJa is not existing in those phones, etc. So you cannot
access to the full set of i-mode available content, and the very
important and ARPU generator link between i-mode web pages and e-mail is
not working properly.
e-plus has done that because the German market is highly competitive and
they could not be present on a multimedia offer without nokia. But ask
them the figures of ARPU on those "i-mode like" phones compared to the
genuine i-mode phones. I think the difference is very interesting.
Vodafone additional Live! ARPU is not so big. The figures they have
published is an additional 2 or 3 euros on 2003, compared to a 10-15
euros of incremental ARPU in France. But they are making good progress,
and they have understood that phone design and usability controlled by
the carrier is a key issue for growing multimedia ARPU.

million european users
hello,
is it true that the nokia browser for 6220 & 3650 support imode chtml?
i have complied a list of european imode devices for the wurfl and had
heard
that both nokia and siemens were planning to release chtml browsers. i
know
of sagam, mitusbshi, nec and toshiba as well as the japanese phones.
are there any others?
darren
p.s. is vodafone live really that great/popular a service? im not sure.
they
have less active users than the old vizzavi service. they do however
have an
excellent pr machine and david beckham does a fine job of promoting it.
their arp is still much lower than that of docomo - even than that of
imode
france. i suppose their data charges profit is good though as the
vodafone
live site is heavy on graphics and expensive to use.
