(1) digital TV
I personally know many people involved in the development and some
in several Japanese TV broadcasting networks. how many people have
a digital TV set at home? nobody.
in Tokyo, terrestrial digital TV only covers a small area around
Shidome and Odaiba. most people are out of coverage.
how do people like it? actually people hate it because the Japanese
government force termination of analog TV by July 25, 2011.
it's not something that the market wants, it's something the economy
needs to save the big companies from the decade long recession, and
after the Muse/bs-hi failed many years ago.
(2) video conference for mobile
if you are still a believer, have a look at the new FOMA chara-den
feature. it effectively says: "video conference is not welcome".
and you can do the same using very very narrowband, like SMS ...
wideband is no good, narrowband is. UMTS is no good, TD-SCDMA is.
