I do not know how I-mode mail exactly works, but if we are
talking about smtp protocol it is just about transfering mails
and nothing about the mail gets stored after delivery.
Yes it is true that most smtp servers in the end deliver
the mail into mbox or maildir format mail storage. My point
is that even though DoCoMo can receive smtp mail that does
not necessary mean the users have a "mailbox" somewhere.
My quess is that instead of using conventional delivery
agent (which would deliver into conventional mailbox)
DoCoMo's delivery agent just pushes the mail into handset.
If handset is not available then keep it in the smtp queue.
