Bear in mind Orange did the same with their MS Smartphone-based 'SPV' -
although being microsoft, the lock turned out to be pretty easy to
pick...

Subject: (keitai-l) No sense: Hutchison 3G locks down A920 3G Symbian
phone
This is just againts the user:
Hutchison 3G UK Holdings Ltd has locked down the
new Motorola-built smart phone for its "3" service,
seemingly in an effort to stop the device being used
for nefarious purposes. However, the plan denies users
of the device access to applications written for the
similar Symbian-based handset from Sony Ericsson
Mobile Communications AB.

I can not agree with this. Non sense... Even more no
sense if you think that you will be able to use 3G phones
with 3 not distributed directly by the operator so well
open to any software install.
How can be usefull such an advanced smartphone
if you cannot install any software?
What do they mean with "nefarious purposes"??
I think this will help the competition...
