Bluetooth has absolutely no chance. it should survive somewhere else.
I think public 802.11x access will be provided as an option to fixed
full service access (FTTH, BPON, VDSL, etc.) at home. In Japan, it's
about USD 10+ on top of the ISP monthly fee of about USD 20-30 dollars
for a 8-12 Mb/s ADSL or 100 Mb/s FTTH access.
Wi-Fi cannot compete with mobile in coverage but it can steal huge
traffic, both data and voice.
Wi-Fi comes as standard (integrated) in many notebook PCs and is
the officially supported LAN access interface in many offices, while
you may find Bluetooth in devices only to work as an IrDA replacement
or remote controllers.
the market for Bluetooth may be big for your toy pets, vacuum cleaners
and other household electric appliances to talk each other.
