Ken,

we did some work on L-mode for a customer. You can find a short
summary about L-mode and also the subscriber numbers here:

The subscriber numbers are really low! in the low 100,000s.
and that says nothing about the usage, which might be even lower.

Can't see how any content producer can make any money on this.
Japan telecom by the way has a competing services - does anybody
know if this is still around - they must have even lower numbers,
maybe a couple of thousand only.

No comparison to Minitel...
