As far as ingrained habits go - Napster demonstrates that if you make it 
easy enough to get hold of music, consumers are quite happy to change their 
habits. (Of course, it's a poor example from the music industry's POV - but 
it shows that changes to customer behaviour can be made inexpensively and 
quickly)

And does it have to be the case that either OTA downloads or media cards 
win out? There are circumstances where each might be appropriate - in much 
the same way that people buy from Amazon, but still enjoy browsing through 
physical bookshops.
