Hello to all,
This is my first message here but i'm a passive keitai-l subscriber since a few months. My english is everything else but perfect, so i hope that's no problem. ;-)
I'm from Germany and i wrote this mail because of the marketing-strategy for the e-plus i-mode service and the Nokia 3650. I was very surprised to see the Nokia 3650 on the i-mode website of e-plus:
http://www2.eplus-imode.de/1/de/html/pub/marketing/start_fs.html?page=3_handy/3_2_highlights_nokia.html
(in german only)
The e-plus marketing say the Nokia 3650 is an i-mode handset! But Nokia itself say it's a Wap2.0 phone:
http://nokia.com/nokia/0,5184,2275,00.html
So i've asked the hotline of e-plus and it IS a Wap2.0 phone but: "Wap2.0 is compatible to i-mode!" - I can't belive it!! OK, the XHTML of Wap2.0 may have much in commen with cHTML/iHTML but itīs not the same...
And the Nokia 3650 don't support all i-mode features like emoticons or (i-mode compatible) ringtones or imail(!) - it only supports normal email but there is no push-function! And the Java impementation isn't i-apply but MIDP 1.0 and there is no i-menu key on the phone...
I think it's a major mistake by e-plus to market the Nokia 3650 as an i-mode phone! It donīt realy works with i-mode, it's a Wap phone! A Nokia 3650 with i-mode has NO advantage to a 3650 with VodafoneLive or t-zones!
This can be negative to the reputation of i-mode in Germany! What's your opinion?
Simon Kringe.
