SMS, usually to a shortcode, that is billed at a higher rate than normal
rates. In most cases at a band of rates up to about 5 euro. The revenue is
shared between a content provider and the mobile operator. Usually starts at
50-50 share for 50 cent message charge with provider share increasing above
50% as the charge increases.
other issues for content providers to bear in mind:
- hidden charges - operators often impose a monthly threshold and handling
fee. Threshold can be high and restarts at each month.
- interoperability - as usual shortcodes may not transfer across networks
