I found that ICQ provides a service that can send SMS messages via an email address to European mobile phones. See: http://web.icq.com/help/quickhelp/1,,1728,00.html?mul=3 The mail address: +CountryCodeTelephoneNo@icqsms.com While it would be really useful to be able to send SMS messages to friends in Europe I am loath to try this in case they suddenly start getting SPAM messages sent to their phones.
