hi Juergen,
you should be able to tell yourself, if you use DoCoMo.
in most networks in the world, about 20% to 30% messages are
failed at the first attempt. with even the primitive SMSCs,
like Korean or Chinese ones, you can easily raise the rate
to more than 95% using simple retry.
the less than 2% of the failed messages in au/KDDI and J-Phone
are usually concentrated on a small number of handsets. normal
users almost never have to pull the messages manually. many of
them don't even know there is a "mail-request" menu item.
give EZweb or J-Sky a try, you'll love it.
btw, it's interesting that the majority of J-Sky is still MML
(similar to i-mode), and most traffic still carried over CSD,
but J-Phone can manage to provide a better service and they
will do it even better with WAP.
I know many Japanese who prefer WAP over i-mode. there are two
kinds of people who love i-mode: those who made a lot of money,
including many of my friends and many on this mailing list, and
those who have no idea what i-mode is.
cheers,
Ken

Ken,

can you back this with some hard facts or do you just hate
your ex-employer?
Juergen
