hi Paul,
I've never seen DoCoMo's spam-blocker but I'd say that it's
the NEC M-MAX mail servers that have problems.
the GRIMM server group for i-mode is the worst design nightmare
one can imagine. judging by the hardware configuration, I'd say
it's anything between 5-20 times more expensive than the servers
used by au/TU-KA or J-Phone for the same trafic. because it's
not open/COTS, it's very expensive to maintain and upgrade, too.
the spam problem is more an excuse. even NEC hadn't imagined
its GRIMM server could support 3 mln subs. I credit them have
been doing great to serve over 30 mln demanding users now, with
shitty technology.
the i-mode mail is, by far, inferior compared with the fast,
guaranteed-delivery, large size, rich content, and many more
service features provided by au/TU-KA or J-Phone. I'd say au's
cdma will be the best, though the Sha-Mail takes the lead now.
Honda's success was partly supported by the motocycle gangs,
and DoCoMo, by a large part, the porno/de'ai sites. that's
easier to copy by KPN, E-plus, and AWE.
cheers,
Ken
