Carl Kay, Board Member of DNA Media K.K. of Tokyo and a Director of the
Japan Translation Federation, will give a presentation (in Japanese) titled
"Translating for Multimedia" in Tokyo on Tuesday December 11.
Carl and key members of the DNA team will explain the challenges of
translating and localizing CD-ROMs, DVDs, and other digital media. Along
with facing the obvious issues of cross-cultural adaptation, translators of
multimedia do their work under technical and workflow constraints that
limit some of the freedom enjoyed by text-only translators. In
compensation, multimedia translators get to see their work come alive in
various exciting entertainment and educational projects.
The presentation will include an overview of the multimedia translation
field, a demonstration of the Japanese version of the Louvre Museum Tour
DVD recently localized by DNA Media from French to Japanese for Shogakkan,
and examples of typical challenges in multimedia localization.
The talk is part of a series of presentations on translation sponsored by
the Japan Translation Federation and will be held from 13:50 to 16:40 at
Honyaku Kaikan near Aoyama 1-chome station. The cost to attend is 5000 yen
for the general public (3500 yen for Japan Translation Federation Members).
