Strong point Gerhard,

From our side we see two issues compelling companies to come here

1) The iMode model MIGHT be transportable to (and ultimately could
dominate in) other markets, in which case anyone who aspires to be a
player in world markets in the future needs to be in Japan now.

2) Even if the iMode model does not dominate elsewhere it is the only
semi-mature market at this point in time. The additional 12-36 month of
real market research, and development will give companies that are here
an invaluable lead in other markets no matter what technology they
ultimately get.

Either way, the leaders in this market will be miles ahead of
competitors that wait and start out in the other markets.

In many cases the companies setting up mobile solutions here are not
expecting to get their model right for quite some time. Just as it took
most of the ultimately successful companies on the Internet quite some
time to refine their services and realize a profitable model so should
we expect the mobile market to have some teething time.

If we use realistic measures for the mobile market such as a comparison
to the LAN/PDA/Digital Camera market (or choose any other you like) then
it quite clear that all aspects of iMode and Japan's proprietary Mobile
Internet are immensely successful given the early stage we are in.
