What about advertising? Japan remains one of the few places in the world
where portals can still charge substantial fees for PC-internet banners and
text adds. Might not this apply to the mobile net too? Does anyone have
any knowledge of any companies filling a similar niche in the i-mode
foodchain to say Doubleclick on the PC web?
I have in fact asked this list once before to discuss this issue and no one
replied on the list*.
I should think that add space on an official content site would be a pretty
easy sell.
1. of screen real-estate is extremely high compared to the typical banner on
the PC-web
2. Docomo could provide impartial 3rd party documentation of subscriber
rates
- possibly more demographic segmentation (this is what advertisers are
really ready to pay for)
3. With the phone number tag banners/text adds could link surfers directly
to a sales rep.
If the amount of spam on my phone is any indication I would guess that
unofficial email advertising is paying off for someone.
*Many thanks however to Gerhard Fasol for responding offlist.
