DoCoMo was thinking about supporting the vast majority of contents and
contents providers already in the web world, where GIF is the dominant image
format, regardless of legal status.
Regardless of PNG's superior legal and technical status, it has been over 2
years and yet still only a tiny minority of web images are using PNG instead
of GIF. DoCoMo is an industry follower, not a revolutionary trend-setter.
