Well, there's another major difference: you've always got your phone with
you.

If you buy a portable TV, that's yet another thing to carry around,
and you aren't sure if you're going to use it or not, you start saying
"Well, it's feeling a bit heavy/bulky/whatever; I'll leave it at home
today." This is exactly what happened with the wireless cradle for
my Palm when I was living in New York; my usage never really built up
because I couldn't justify carrying the heavy thing around if I wasn't
sure I was going to use it.

This started happening with my Palm, too, but not in a serious way
until I started using the scheduling in my P209i. Sure, as a scheduling
application it's rubbish compared to the Palm, but it provides something
adequate without carrying anything extra around. Since there's a
reasonable phone book in the phone, too, my Palm now stays in my bag,
and never goes in my pocket. (And it may be leaving my bag soon, come
to think of it.)
