NTT DoCoMo <9437.T> says 3G network improving

TOKYO, July 26 (Reuters) - NTT DoCoMo Inc, Japan's top mobile phone
carrier, said on Thursday that it has solved many of the initial
problems in the stability of its trial third-generation wireless
services.
DoCoMo said that connection rates improved to 90 percent as of July
19 from 50 percent at the time of launch in May and that the reliability
of handsets had been boosted.
"Customers could only get connections once out of every two tries but
now they can connect on nearly every try," said Shiro Tsuda,
executive vice president in charge of networks.
Third-generation mobile phones receive information at 40 times the
speed of current mobile phones, making fast Internet access and video
downloads possible.
Focus on the company's 3G service has been intense since it delayed
the full commercial launch to October 1 and began a trial service on
May 30.
DoCoMo's peers overseas have struggled to launch such services
quickly to recoup enormous investments in 3G licences and equipment.
