I agree, it is too bad. It reduces the usefulness of the service
considerably. 

One really wants all incoming mail to go through one's own server so that
one can decide what to do with it (chop important things into multiple
short messages and send them on to the keitai), junk spam, etc

But you can't make sure all incoming messages will be to the address you
want if outgoing messages from your keitai have a different from address.
So you would have to get into nasty kludgy fixes like sending ALL mail
from your keitai to an address on your own server, with the actual
addressee wrapped in the message itself. Then reformat the message and use
your own server to pass it on to the real addressee... Requires you have a
box to play with of course... Or requires someone runs a service that does
that. (Then you would have problems sending to people who have fascistic
anti spam defences as the reverse lookup would fail presumably)

Does anyone do creative things of this kind?
