I think an interesting part of the fight for customers between the carriers
are their respective Television marketing strategies. In the stores
themselves its a different matter.
DoCoMo has focused on promoting content- what you can do with the phone.
AU and Jphone prices- 1/2 priced for college students, family discounts.
Cheap or free email.
If all the services allowed access to the same services, then competitive
pricing could be a major advantage. But in the case of Jphone, they are
already far behind imode. Unless they start allowing imode emoticons in
email, viewing of gifs etc, full compatibility to imode sites, and promote
the ability to do so, they're unlikely to ever catch up.
