I think there are two statements here:
1 - over 3.8 million people actually used i-mode in Nov 2000 (not just a
count of the number of i-mode handsets sold, but the number of people
who used i-mode that month)
2 - As announced @ 2nd Anniv event in Feb, 90% of DoCoMo customers who
have an i-mode phone use i-mode, for web access not just email. The
discrepancy between 3rd party estimates of "actual" usage being 30% or
whatever and DoCoMo's claim of 90% usage comes from the fact that DoCoMo
can look at all the logs for all 21 million users. Didn't say what week
(I'm guessing it's recently), but when DoCoMo analysed a week of access
logs they found that 90% of i-mode users accessed the Internet.
