Sorry but,
Designing a handset that displays colour pictures is one thing. Enabling
retrieval over a wireless network is another. The author of the page has to
know it is possible with *all* clients connecting.
So, if Nokia decides to make a WAP phone supporting colour pictures (let's
say JPG), and Ericsson does not support the same standard but goes for BMP,
WAP content aggregators have a problem.
Industrial organization came into play in Japan. DoCoMo dictates what type
of colour pictures are supported. All manufacturers act upon.
The WAP standard did not allow for colour pictures, i-mode supported it with
the later models. Hence, it has *everything* to do with WAP.
Sincerely,
Victor
PS: See you next wednesday, Paul! Looking forward to your presentation at
WAP Wednesday.
