Daniel,
According to a presentation on i-mode JAVA I saw last night at Digital
Hollywood (FYI now in partnership & with the official blessing of DoCoMo to
"educate" developers etc. with the necessary skills to create applications
for the cHTML platform)
> 1. What does DoCoMo call its version of J2ME?
is called DoJa (DoCoMo Java) - see the page about the working environment
(jikkou kankyo) in the ppt presentation.
On the bottom of the pyramid you've got Sun's J2ME (CLCC) specs, on top of
which you've got DoJa (DoCoMo refined version) on top of which you've got
the handset makers' versions. Obviously for a developer you're going to want
to aim for the DoJa specs for max-reach, however the handset maker specs
(within the DoJa ones) do open up interesting possibilities for specific
handset content apps.
> 2. When did DoCoMo post the i-appli J2ME spec to the public?
The first Java-enabled i-mode phone was first demonstrated 00/6
The guidelines (specs) were partially released 00/9 (on the web for about a
day - one week from memory)
The full specs were released officially 00/12
