Why the " "? Do you think that consumers in Europe would have been happier
if there was another technology in place? You would still have the crappy
handsets of the Western manufacturers (well, including some Japanese too)
without color, circuit switched instead of packet switched, impossibility
of some network operators to bill for content, etc. etc.
So, don't blame that on WAP.

And what could be the reason for that then? Hmmm, would it be that there
were
already a lot of HDML users around and they didn't want to alienate this
customer base or alienate the companies developing for their portal by going
for the improved technology. No, can't be, can it? ;-)

Hmmm, I am thinking again. Could it have anything to do with the huge
market power that DoCoMo has? No, probably not. ;-)

Please Gustaf, don't make the same mistake as many others do by determining
a direct relationship between phenomena and what could have caused them.
Most of these relationships are indirect. That is why people in the Medieval
Europe
thought that being a leather-craftsman would magically keep you from being
sacrificed by the Black Plague. We all know now that it was the urine that
they used to soften the skins that scared the infectuous flees away.

Ah, and which scripting language would deliver the URL that includes an
object
(whether it is a midlet) to the Phone? Openwave (and WAP) is NOT only
about this scripting language. It also is about a lot of other layers in the
OSI network layer model, including gateway technology.
