So far, this thread only seems to have covered 'beaming' (the IrOBEX
protocol). The main use for those IR ports is of course to provide a
serial connection (IrCOMM protocol) with the phone accepting and
responding to Hayes AT-commands as if it is a modem. Many GSM phones
with IR ports support additional commands with a similar support that
can be used to read and write the address book(s) on the phone and/or
SIM. There are a few Palm applications that allow syncing with a phone
using these commands. I didn't find them very useful, and I'm not at
all hopeful that any non-GSM phones might support these commands. It
might be worth trying them though.
