Mika:
I disagree with you that location based advertisements will be the next
major flop?
Location based advertisements will work very well in Japan's larger cities.
It is however necessary that these advertisements are accompanied with
useful information. Japanese are already willing to pay for
advertisement-like magazines as the Tokyo Walker that give information
about restaurants, shops and events. So, why should it not work for the
convenient mobile phones. Let me give you one example:
If you go to Shibuya for shopping, it might be useful to request for
information on the most 10 popular Italian restaurants. Nowadays, people
have to input the area where they are. If the location is automatically
recognized they only have to request what type of information they need. In
this case they will select Italian. They will receive a list of 10 Italian
restaurants with the same information as in Tokyo Walker of which they can
pick. This will be a huge market in Japan, in particular for the
information brokers and advertisement agencies.
