(keitai-l) I-Mode searchengines

I just wonder how I-Mode search engines work...for the conventional
way to run a robot and index the content of websites is not enough
food on I-Mode sites available and Meta-Tags are also not widely
supported (and they blow up the pages).

So how do search engines work or is the word "search engine"
the wrong word for them, because a human beeing feeds the engine
by hand and not via robot? So the term "searchable directory"
would be better, right?
