So does the unique handset id correlate to the phone number so that it can
be used to generate an email address?

Does the browser in the iMode phones have a feature like cookies so a
visitor can be recognized and a custom page displayed?

That is incorrect. Official sites do have access to the unique handset id.
However, this is NOT the phone number, and even official sites cannot get
demographic information about the user.
