Yesterday's DoCoMo and Sony PlayStation deal (as well as the AOL and
DoCoMo tie-up) has set a buzz about town.
In its typically cryptic manner, the business section of today's Daily
Gomiuri <http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/index-e.htm> tersely reports that:
"Under the agreement NTT DoCoMo and SCEI [Sony Computer Entertainment
Inc] will combine the PlayStation combined with conventional i-mode
mobile phones, Java-enabled i-mode phones and next-generation mobile
communications system, known as W-CDMA. The specific content of the new
service is still under consideration, the two companies said".
Ahhhhh, now that's clear.

Development will revolve around PlayStation combining with a currnet
i-mode phone, with a Java-enabled i-mode phone, and with new mobile
communications systems being rolled out in Japan such as W-CDMA
(wideband code division multiple access). NTT DoCoMo added that a
connecting cable was to be developed by Sony and both companies were
encouraging software companies to "develop new services for a potential
new i-mode/Playstation entertainment network."
