According to what DoCoMo themselves have been saying at different occations, their average mobile phone user spends about JPY 8,000 per month and their average i-mode phone user spends about JPY 10,500.
But this does not mean that the average user spends JPY 2,500 on content services. Just like Ren wrote, it's more like 1,500. Roughly it's split this way: JPY 300 subscription fee, plus an average of about JPY 100-300 on content subscription fees (yes, that's one piece of content), plus around JPY 900 on data traffic.
In addition to this, he or she TALKS for an additional JPY 1,200-1,300 more per month than the average mobile phone user. (The killer app of the mobile phone is still the possibility to call, and that's one of many reasons it's a great platform.) I think that i-mode users call more than others because they...
- they are heavy users from the first place
- they use the many "click-to-call" functions built into the content
- they call their friends to talk about the what they've done online
- the mobile phone has become an even more central part of their lives so they think of it more and use it more

I'm trying to determine what the average revenue per i-mode user is each
month, realizing there are different pricing schemes for monthly usage
depending on amount of free airtime and usage patterns. But how much does
the average i-mode user spend on peripheral subscription services. The
initial 300 yen is necessary for i-mode access, then between 100 and 300 yen
per month for ability to download characters, music, etc. Is the average
then, including basic monthly charges, climbing to, say, 6,000 yen, 10,000
yen, 15,000 yen or higher? How does this compare to AU and J-Phone
revenue per user?
